Label Generator — User Guide
This extension generates a print-ready PDF of labels from an Equipe meeting, laid out to match a physical label sheet (for example the Bruneau 70 × 35 mm sheet, 24 labels per A4 page).
There are two variants of the extension. They share the same interface and the same settings; only what goes on each label differs.
| Variant | Folder | One label shows | Which entries are printed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Participant labels | extensions_Equipe/ |
Horse no. + horse name, rider country + rider name, logo, club no. + custom text | The competitions you select in the list |
| Competition labels | extensions_Equipe/Competiions_label/ |
Date, competition no., class/type, arena | Auto-filtered: current week, CSI classes, status "H" |
Everything below applies to both, except the "Competition selection" step, which only exists in the participant variant.
Opening the generator
The generator opens inside Equipe as a modal or browser window. It is loaded through a signed token, so you normally reach it from the Equipe interface itself — there is nothing to log into separately.
Step by step
1. Select competitions (participant variant only)
Use the Select Competition dropdown to pick a class, then it moves into the Selected Competitions list. Repeat to add several. Use the red trash button to remove one.
The competition variant skips this step — it automatically picks every CSI competition of the current week.
2. Upload a logo (participant variant only)
Upload a JPEG or PNG. It is placed at the bottom-left of every label. If you leave it empty, the label is still generated (the text simply uses the full width).
3. Choose a label format (the fastest path)
Click a preset button/menu at the top of the dimensions section. The recommended one is:
Bruneau 70 × 35 mm — 24 per A4 sheet (ref. 171-37)
Selecting it fills in all the dimension and margin fields at once with the correct values:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Rows | 8 |
| Columns | 3 |
| Label width | 70 mm |
| Label height | 35 mm |
| Column / row gutter | 0 mm |
| Left / right margin | 0 mm |
| Top / bottom margin | 8.5 mm |
These are the exact measurements of the Bruneau sheet: three columns of 70 mm fill the full 210 mm width of an A4 page, and eight rows of 35 mm leave 8.5 mm of margin top and bottom. If you use a different sheet, pick the matching preset (Avery formats are also available in the competition variant) or fill the fields manually.
4. Adjust dimensions manually (optional)
If your sheet is not in the preset list, set each value yourself:
- Number of rows / columns — the grid of labels on one page.
- Label width / height (mm) — the size of a single label.
- Column / row gutter (mm) — the gap between labels (0 if they touch).
- Page margins (mm) — the blank border around the whole grid.
Decimals are allowed (e.g. 8.5). This matters: rounding a margin of 8.5 mm down to 8 mm is what used to make the lower labels drift out of alignment.
5. Print calibration (optional, fixes small offsets)
Two fields, Offset X and Offset Y (mm), shift the entire grid to compensate for the small offset every printer has:
- X positive → moves everything to the right (negative → left)
- Y positive → moves everything down (negative → up)
Leave them at 0 for the first print. If the result is slightly off, nudge by 0.5 mm at a time until it lines up. Once set for your printer, the value stays good for future prints.
6. Extra options (participant variant only)
- Custom Text — free text added to the bottom of every label.
- Sort by — order the labels by horse number, rider last name, or rider first name.
- Print only horses not present before — skips entries already marked "already on place".
7. Generate
Click Generate and Print Labels. The PDF opens in a new window and the print dialog appears automatically.
Printing correctly (important)
This is the number-one cause of misaligned labels, and no setting in the tool can override it — you must set it in the browser's print dialog:
- Scale / Size: choose "Actual size" / "100%". Never "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit" — those scale the PDF down by a few percent and every label drifts a little further down the page.
- Margins: set to "None".
- If nothing prints, allow pop-ups for the site (the PDF opens in a new window).
Recommended first test: print one page on plain paper, hold it against a blank label sheet in front of a window, and check the alignment. If there is a small, even shift, correct it once with Offset X / Y, and you are set.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Labels drift further off toward the bottom of the page | Printing with "Fit to page" scaling | Reprint at Actual size / 100% |
| Everything is shifted evenly in one direction | Printer offset | Use Offset X / Y (0.5 mm steps) |
| Long horse/rider names get cut off | — | The tool now auto-shrinks the text to fit; if still tight, widen the label or reduce the custom text |
| Text overlaps the logo | — | The logo is anchored to the bottom of the label; if it still overlaps, increase label height |
| No PDF appears | Pop-up blocked | Allow pop-ups for the site and retry |
| Accented names look wrong (é, ç, …) | Encoding of the source data | The tool already corrects common cases; report the specific name if one slips through |
| Blank / partial labels | A selected entry is missing required fields | It is skipped by design; check the source data in Equipe |
